A committee of the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board advanced plans for a round of sanctions on Georgia, Nebraska, and Ohio Friday, finding the states weren’t in compliance with the group’s governing agreement aimed at simplifying sales tax codes.
The executive committee of the 24-state governing board examined compliance gaps and options for legislative remedies within each of the three states before voting unanimously to recommend penalties. The recommendations will be forwarded to the full governing board, which could formally sanction Georgia, Nebraska, and Ohio during the group’s semi-annual meeting on May 21 in Providence, Rhode Island.
