Seattle Increases Rideshare Tax to Boost Wages for Gig Drivers

Seattle Uber and Lyft drivers will be guaranteed the city’s minimum wage and gain job protections and other benefits under a bill the City Council passed Nov. 25.

City lawmakers voted 9-0 to pass Mayor Jenny A. Durkan’s “Fare Share” plan, which is being called the first of its kind in the country. Gig drivers will receive at least the local $16 minimum wage in addition to compensation for benefits and expenses.
