Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt’s plan to cut the personal income tax rate was shredded Monday when senators opened a special legislative session and adjourned in 15 minutes without taking action on the proposal.
Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat (R) called the Republican governor’s demand for a special legislative session to cut taxes a “waste of taxpayer dollars” because lawmakers were already scheduled to begin meeting in regular session in one week. Moreover, lawmakers won’t have a clear understanding of Oklahoma’s fiscal condition until Feb. 15 when a certified revenue estimate is released, Treat said.
