South Carolina Governor Signs Law Amending Property Tax Exemption Provisions for Disabled Veterans, Surviving Spouses

The South Carolina Governor March 11 signed a law amending provisions of the South Carolina Code of Laws relating to property taxes and exemptions for certain disabled veterans of the U.S. armed forces or surviving spouses thereof. The law includes measures: 1) exempting certain disabled veterans and their spouses from property taxes in the year in which the disability occurs; 2) providing that a qualified surviving spouse includes spouses who remain unmarried, reside in the house, and have acquired ownership of the house in fee or for life, notwithstanding whether the deceased spouse applied, filed for, or claimed an exemption; ...
