The South Dakota Governor Feb. 5 signed a law amending the valuation service used to value vehicles, for sales and use and excise tax purposes. The law includes measures: 1) revising the requirement for the county treasurer to use a national motor vehicle valuation service instead of the National Automobile Dealers’ Used Car Guide to collect the tax on the retail value of the motor vehicle if sufficient proof isn’t furnished; 2) clarifying that once a motor vehicle is taxed or granted the exemption under this section, it doesn’t qualify for another exemption if sold or traded and repurchased by ...
