Sprint Agrees to Pay $330 Million to End New York Tax Claims (2)

Sprint Corp. agreed to pay $330 million to settle New York state claims that the company failed to collect and pay sales taxes on flat-rate access charges for wireless calling plans, Attorney General Barbara Underwood said Friday.

The recovery is the biggest ever by a single state in a false-claims action, Underwood said. It comes just days after Underwood secured a $174.2 million settlement with Charter Communications Inc. to resolve claims the cable provider ripped off customers on internet speeds -- the largest ever payout to consumers by an internet service provider in U.S. history.
