St. Louis Property Taxes Trimmed for Covid-Era Inspection Pause

The St. Louis County assessor failed to make proper inspections before increasing the value of residential properties during the Covid-19 pandemic, a Missouri tribunal ruled.

Any 2021 valuations more than 15% greater than the 2020 assessed values are invalid for failure to comply with the state’s inspection statute, Senior Hearing Officer Benjamin C. Slawson ruled Tuesday for the Missouri State Tax Commission. Slawson capped the owners’ 2021 assessed values at the 2020 values plus 15%.
