States Mull Updates to Where Broadcast, Airline Revenue Is Taxed

The Multistate Tax Commission will reexamine its long-standing rules for tracking income from broadcasters and airlines to help states avoid conflicts over how and where revenue streams from those industries should be taxed.

Possible updates to the special industry sourcing rules are on the agenda during the intergovernmental tax agency’s spring meeting beginning Monday. Tax administrators from roughly half of US states will gather in Spokane, Wash. to discuss a range of commission initiatives aimed at boosting tax consistency and compliance across all states.
