States to Focus on Uniformity With Taxes on Digital Products

The Multistate Tax Commission will develop guidelines for the taxation of digital products by early 2022 with the goal of promoting uniformity for state administration of levies on streaming entertainment, cloud computing, and digital advertising.

The Uniformity Committee of the MTC, an intergovernmental agency that seeks harmony across state tax policy, will convene stakeholder meetings and review digital economy developments in the coming weeks, said commission general counsel Nancy Prosser.
