State tax revenue from major sources soared in the first quarter of 2018, boosted by strong growth in personal income-tax receipts, according to a new Urban Institute report.
State tax revenue from major sources rose 9.6 percent in the first quarter of 2018, compared with the same period last year, the Oct. 30 report said.
Individual income-tax revenue increased 15 percent year-over-year, sales-tax revenue increased 4.4 percent, and corporate income-tax collections declined 3.6 percent.
Personal income-tax collections were artificially boosted as taxpayers shifted income-tax payments to 2017 before state and local deductions were limited.
