Suit Alleges Expedia, Others Cheated Nevada on Lodging Taxes (1)

Online travel companies including Expedia, Orbitz, and Hotels.com knowingly cheated Nevada out of hundreds of millions of dollars in lodging tax revenue over at least six years, a whistleblower lawsuit says.

Las Vegas communications consultants Sig Rogich and Mark Fierro filed a false claims action in state court against more than 20 online travel platforms on behalf of the Nevada Attorney General, Las Vegas plaintiff attorney Michael Cristalli told Bloomberg Tax.

The action was originally filed under seal in Clark County District Court in April, but was only revealed Tuesday after the seal expired.
