‘Suits’ Spinoff, Janis Joplin Biopic Earn California Tax Credits

The California Film Commission Tuesday awarded $51.6 million in tax credits to 18 movie productions, including a feature about the singer Janis Joplin and a reboot of the television legal drama “Suits.”

Universal Content Productions LLC received the largest credit, worth $12 million, for the first season of “Suits: L.A.,” a spinoff of a series that ran originally from 2011 to 2019. The credit was issued through the state’s Soundstage Filming Tax Credit Program, which funds productions filmed on qualifying stages in California.
