Telecom Giants’ Win Over Missouri City’s Tax Lawsuit Affirmed

Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, AT&T, and Verizon affiliates are off the hook for a Missouri city’s business license taxes after a state appeals court ruled in their favor Tuesday.

Jefferson City, Mo., asked the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, to revive its lawsuit for delinquent taxes, arguing the trial court misinterpreted a state law meant to refer to statutes of limitations.

But the statute’s reference to “limitation for bringing suit” refers to portions of the state’s sales tax law that outline what a municipality must do before seeking delinquent taxes, the court ruled. The ...
