Tennessee DOR Announces Sales Tax Exemption on Vehicle Purchases by National Guard, Uniformed Service Members

The Tennessee Department of Revenue Oct. 14 announced that the members of the National Guard and reserve members of the U.S. uniformed service are exempt from sales and use tax on the purchase or use of a motor vehicle registered in the state, when they are called into active military service and are stationed in a combat zone. Reservists on active duty who are neither part of the active guard and reserve program nor stationed in a combat zone do not qualify for the exemption.
