Tennessee DOR Issues Information on Recordation Excise Tax

The Tennessee Department of Revenue May 7 issued information on the recordation tax for excise tax purposes. When a deed of trust is presented to the local register of deeds along with an assignment to either: 1) the Tennessee Housing Development Agency or the Federal Housing Administration, the recordation of such deed of trust is exempt from recordation tax; or 2) the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) or the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac), the recordation of such deed of trust is subject to recordation tax.
