The Tennessee Department of Revenue (DOR) May 1 issued a local sales and use tax notice regarding the local sales tax rate on food and food ingredients. The notice provides that: 1) certain cities and towns are authorized to levy a reduced sales tax rate on food and food ingredients; 2) a city or town is authorized to exempt food and food ingredients from the city tax rate; and 3) the reduced tax rate or exemption applies from Oct. 1.
