Texas Updates R&D Expenses Franchise Tax Credit

The Texas Governor signed a law concerning the Franchise Tax Credit for certain research and development expenses. The law includes extending the Franchise Tax Credit for research and development expenses by amending the Tax Code, effective Jan. 1, 2026, to provide for the credit and repealing the existing Tax Code provisions concerning the credit that were due to expire on Dec. 31, 2026. The law takes effect on Jan. 1, 2026. [S.B. 2206, enacted 06/22/25]
