A handshake agreement halted a planned San Francisco ballot measure to tax ride-sharing services such as Uber Technologies Inc. and Lyft Inc.
Instead, it resulted in a bill to be introduced in the California Legislature.
Supervisor Aaron Peskin, who has battled transportation network companies (TNC) for years, withdrew the planned initiative supervisors were expected to approve for the Nov. 6 ballot and announced the compromise. Assemblymember Phil Ting (D) will introduce legislation when lawmakers return from summer recess on Aug. 6. Ting, former San Francisco assessor-recorder, is Assembly Budget Committee chairman.
