Georgia is likely to wait at least another year to require sales tax collection by online marketplaces and to clarify the tax obligations of ride-share networks Uber and Lyft.
The state Legislature ended its 2019 session April 2 without reaching agreement on sales tax proposals involving marketplaces like Etsy Inc. and eBay Inc. that facilitate third-party sales. H.B. 276 would have required such platforms—as well as property rental platforms Airbnb Inc. and Homeaway—to collect and remit sales tax if their annual sales into Georgia exceeded $100,000.
Lawmakers also adjourned without agreeing on ride-share taxes.
