Utah Tax Commission Announces Imposition of Motor Vehicle Rental Tax by Piute, Wasatch Counties

The Utah State Tax Commission July 1 announced that Piute and Wasatch Counties will impose a vehicle rental tax effective Oct. 1 for excise tax purposes. The bulletin provides that: 1) both counties will impose the motor vehicle rental tax rate at 7 percent; 2) combined with the statewide 2.5 percent rate, the total motor vehicle rental tax rate in each county will be 9.5 percent; 3) Wasatch County will impose the off-highway and recreational vehicle rental tax at 7 percent on rentals of off-highway and recreational vehicles for 30 days or less; 4) taxpayers should report and pay these ...
