The Virginia Governor signed a law authorizing the Department of Taxation to grant innocent spouse tax relief to qualifying individuals for income tax purposes. The law permits the state to grant relief to a taxpayer liable for payment of all or part of any unpaid tax owed due to a mistake made by such taxpayer’s spouse on a joint tax return, even if the taxpayer did not file a claim for federal relief. The law takes effect July 1. [H.B. 716, enacted 04/06/26]
