Virginia DOR Announces May 1 Due Date for Litter Tax Filing

The Virginia Department of Taxation April 5 announced that manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, and retailers of certain products must pay their litter tax by May 1. A business becomes liable for the tax on the first Jan. 1 that it conducts business. A business that starts after Jan. 1, won’t be liable for the tax until the following year. The excise tax rate is $10 per business location, with an additional $15 for each location that manufactures, sells or distributes groceries, soft drinks, carbonated waters, beer, or other malt beverages.
