Virginia DOT Issues Warning for Taxpayers Regarding Rising Tax Scams

The Virginia Department of Taxation (DOT) Oct. 24 issued a warning for taxpayers to be aware of rising tax scams for corporate income, individual income, sales and use, excise, property, and trust income tax purposes. Taxpayers should be alert for scammers using phones, social media, email, and snail-mail to pose as employees of the DOT or the Internal Revenue Service and claim that taxpayers violated a tax law or cheated on tax credits, and owe money.
