Virginia Governor Pushes Gas Tax Holiday in Budget Amendments

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) again urged the General Assembly to temporarily suspend the state’s gas tax in a series of budget amendments he sent lawmakers late Wednesday.

Youngkin sent 38 budget amendments to the legislature. Most are for HB 30, the state’s biennial budget, and three for HB 29, the “caboose budget” bill of amendments to the two-year spending plan. They will be considered Friday.

His proposed amendments include a three-month suspension of gas and diesel tax for July, August, and September, along with a 2% limit on annual increases to gasoline and diesel fuel taxes.
