Virginia Lawmakers Approve Competing Marijuana Bills, Taxes

The Virginia House and Senate will have to reconcile differences between bills they passed that would establish regulations and tax rates for the sale of adult-use marijuana.

Both proposals would establish a regulatory and licensing framework for cultivating, manufacturing, testing, and retail sale of marijuana and related products, to be overseen by the Virginia Cannabis Control Authority. But the bills, which passed by fairly close votes, have different details, including taxes and timelines.
