The Virginia Department of Taxation Sept. 1 issued information regarding sales and use tax on food and personal hygiene products. The information provides that the tax rate on food for home consumption and certain personal hygiene products will reduce to 1 percent from 2.5 percent throughout the state, beginning Jan. 1, 2023.
