Washington DOR Announces City of Auburn (King County) Sales Tax Rate Increase for New Transportation Benefit District

The Washington Department of Revenue (DOR) Nov. 1 announced that the city of Auburn will establish a Transportation Benefit District (TBD) effective Jan. 1, 2023, and the city’s sales and use tax rate will increase by 0.001 percent to fund transportation services. Businesses must collect the appropriate new sales tax rate for retail sales and services provided within the city. Also, businesses or persons within the city are subject to a new use tax rate on items purchased for personal or business use if the sales tax hasn’t been paid.
