Washington DOR Announces City of Auburn (Pierce County) Sales Tax Rate Increase for New Transportation Benefit District

The Washington Department of Revenue (DOR) Nov. 2 announced that effective Jan. 1, 2023, the city of Auburn will establish a Transportation Benefit District (TBD), and the city’s sales and use tax rate will increase by 0.001 percent to fund transportation services. Businesses must collect the appropriate new rate of sales tax for retail sales and services provided within the city. Taxpayers within the city will be subject to the new rate of use tax on items purchased for their personal or business use if sales tax isn’t paid.
