The Washington Department of Revenue (DOR) Jan. 31 announced that effective April 1, King County increases its sales and use tax one-tenth of 1 percent (0.001) for specified lodging businesses, for funding cultural access programs. The DOR explains: 1) taxpayers can access the Tax Rate Lookup Tool on its website to determine the proper codes and rates of local sales tax; and 2) “lodging businesses” means a business that furnishes lodging taxable by the state under the Revised Code of Washington.
