Washington DOR Announces Sales Tax Rate Changes for City of Olympia, Effective Jan. 1, 2023

The Washington Department of Revenue Oct. 31 announced that beginning Jan. 1, 2023, the local sales and use tax rate within the City of Olympia will increase by 0.001 percent to fund cultural access programs. The new local rate will be 0.030 percent. The announcement provides that: 1) businesses must collect the sales tax at the appropriate new rate for retail sales and services provided within the city; and 2) the new rate of use tax will apply to individuals or businesses within the city on items purchased for their personal or business use if sales tax isn’t paid.
