Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson proposed the state’s first personal income tax, which he said should apply to people earning more than $1 million.
Ferguson (D) said Tuesday a 9.9% tax should be paired with reductions in sales tax and the state’s gross receipts tax. He said the income threshold should increase with inflation, although it will be up to state lawmakers to actually write and pass the legislation.
The measure could require an amendment to the state’s Constitution.
