West Virginia Amends Excise Tax Exemptions on Real Property Transfers

The West Virginia Governor signed a law amending the state code to exempt excise taxes on real property transfers. The law removes certain exemptions from excise taxes for certain transfers. It adds 16 categories of documents that are exempt from taxation, including transfers between family members without consideration and transfers to or from government entities. The law takes effect on June 12. [H.B. 4625, enacted 03/27/26]
