The Wisconsin Governor signed a law that includes: 1) creating an income and franchise tax credit of 50 percent for qualified new rail infrastructure expenditures during a taxable year subject to a certain cap; 2) creating an income and franchise tax credit of 50 percent for qualified short line rail maintenance during the taxable year subject to a certain cap; 3) allowing expenditures for claiming one, but not both credits; and 4) providing for application of the credit for tax years beginning after Dec. 31, 2025 and before Jan. 1, 2031.
