Wisconsin is fixing a glitch with the collection of local lodging taxes by online vacation rental marketplaces such as Airbnb and Vrbo under legislation signed by Gov. Tony Evers.
Evers (D) on Tuesday signed S.B. 198, which requires marketplaces to collect local room taxes and remit the revenue to the appropriate municipality quarterly. The law requires marketplaces to process their collections based on physical addresses rather than zip codes—curbing a compliance problem that left some communities without their full revenue.
