The IRS is leaning more heavily on lessons learned by banks and other private-sector businesses to speed up modernization as the agency deals with deep workforce cuts.
“We have been getting guidance from and working with people in the private sector as to how they modernize legacy systems, and we’re taking a different approach,” Michael Faulkender, the deputy Treasury secretary and acting IRS commissioner, said Wednesday during a panel at the CERCA 2025 Spring Conference in Arlington, Va.
