African Nations Want to Know if US Tax Carve-Out Deal Helps Them

African tax authorities are meeting with Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development officials this week to learn how their nations might be affected by the exemption US companies have won from the global minimum tax.

Sessions Thursday and Friday are focusing on the new global tax agreement details, which could influence whether African countries implement the tax, Thulani Shongwe of the African Tax Administration Forum said in an interview.

Any effect on participation will be determined by whether African countries can use new rules allowed under the deal, said Shongwe, ATAF’s head of Africa multilateral cooperation.
