AI Art Faces Suits as Photo Owners Fight Online Free-for-All (1)

Getty Images Inc. sued Stability AI Ltd. in a London court alleging the artificial intelligence software illegally copied and processed vast amounts of copyright-protected photos, adding to mounting legal concerns over technology that generates art from existing content on the internet.

Getty’s copyright and design claim, filed on Monday in the UK’s high court, comes days after a US group of artists started a class action suit against Stability AI as well as Midjourney Inc., and DeviantArt Inc., for using copyrighted images without consent or compensation.
