Australia Tax Agency Announces Self-Managed Superannuation Fund Annual Return Obligations, Filing Deadlines

The Australian Taxation Office Nov. 14 announced obligations and filing deadlines for self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) annual returns (SARs). The announcement includes that: 1) taxpayers must file an SAR for the 2024-2025 financial year if their SMSF had assets as of June 30, 2025; 2) taxpayers must mark the SMSF’s record as return not necessary (RNN), or cancel the SMSF’s registration, if the SMSF doesn’t have assets; 3) late filing can result in penalties, the loss of the SMSF’s tax concessions, and a change in the SMSF’s compliance status; 4) a Feb. 28, 2026, filing deadline applies to self-preparing SMSFs ...
