A single member of the House majority could force a vote on deposing the speaker under H. Res. 5 — the revised House rules package for the 118th Congress.
The new version includes a lower threshold to trigger the vote than the text released Jan. 1. The change was agreed to during negotiations to secure support for Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) election as speaker. Other aspects of that agreement aren’t reflected in the package.
