Bonuses Could Double for Cost-Cutting Officials Under House Bill

A bipartisan pair of House lawmakers want to double the maximum reward for federal employees who identify waste at their agencies.

Employees who identify waste could get a bonus of 1% of the amount saved, up to $20,000, under a bill introduced by Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.). The current limit is $10,000.

The bill was introduced on Monday, according to Justine Sanders, spokeswoman for Fleischmann. It’s cosponsored by Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.), according to his spokeswoman, Katie Feldhaus.
