California Wants Online Marketplaces To Set Clear Dispute Rules

Amazon.com Inc., eBay Inc., and other online marketplace platforms would establish clear rules for resolving disputes and terminating or suspending accounts with their sellers under a bill passed by California lawmakers.

Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks (D), the bill’s author, said A.B. 1790 would be the first law of its kind in the country.

It won a final vote of 62-0 in the Assembly Sept. 12 and heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who hasn’t taken a position on it. He has until Oct. 13 to sign or veto it.
