Canadian Solar Mulls US Factory to Benefit From Biden Tax Breaks

Canadian Solar Inc., North America’s biggest solar producer, is considering a US manufacturing site to take advantage of tax incentives under President Joe Biden’s sweeping climate legislation.

The Guelph, Ontario-based company currently has about 31 gigawatts of panel-making capacity, mostly in Asia, and expects that to exceed 32 gigawatts by the end of the year, according to a statement Tuesday.

A US site would follow more than $16 billionof clean-energy factories already planned in America. The Inflation Reduction Act that was signed in August offers generous incentives for domestic solar, battery and electric-vehicle factories.
