Capital Gains Tax to Fund Eviction Services Up for Portland Vote

Voters in Oregon’s Multnomah County will decide on Tuesday whether to add another layer of complexity to the city of Portland’s tax system by approving a 0.75% tax on capital gains to fund services for renters facing eviction.

A coalition of labor, housing, tenants’ rights, equity, and religious groups called Eviction Representation for All is asking for approval of Measure 26-238. Opposing it is a campaign called Building Our Future Together, representing real estate agents, developers, business groups, and at least 20 local and state elected officials.
