Catholic Charities Asks Justices to Eye Wisconsin Tax Break Case

The US Supreme Court should review a split among state high courts over the proper test for determining whether religious organizations qualify for tax benefits, Catholic Charities argued in a petition for review of a Wisconsin case.

Catholic Charities Bureau Inc. and four of its subsidiaries are challenging a March Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling that they don’t qualify for the state’s religious purposes tax exemption and must pay into the unemployment insurance system to cover their employees.
