IRS Chief Counsel Nominee Gets Senate Vote, Big Tasks Ahead (1)

Providing legal advice on enforcement efforts and managing staff ready to implement and defend the 2022 tax-and-climate law will be top priorities for IRS chief counsel nominee Marjorie Rollinson, who is likely to be confirmed to the post on Thursday.

The Senate teed up a confirmation vote for Rollinson after a bipartisan procedural floor vote Wednesday of 52-42. Rollinson, if confirmed, will step into the chief counsel role amid the IRS’s work churning out new guidance and using billions in supplemental funding to bolster its enforcement apparatus. The Senate will vote on her nomination on Thursday.
