Chile’s Senate Finance Committee unanimously approved a bill that would boost tax compliance, permit anonymous whistleblowers and allow authorities to lift banking secrecy.
The proposal, which aims to help Chile collect additional revenue equal to 1.5% of gross domestic product to fund social spending, will now face a vote in the Senate chamber.
- “We would have liked it to have happened a little sooner because for us it’s very important this bill becomes law in time to be part of the next budget,” Finance Minister Mario Marcel said in a press release Wednesday.
