Chile Seeks Feedback on Anonymous Tax Whistleblower Cooperation

Chile’s tax service is seeking comment on the use of anonymous whistleblowers in fraud cases and how to qualify effective cooperation by taxpayers under investigation.

Both concepts are defined in draft regulation that will be adopted to enact a tax compliance law adopted last year, Chile’s tax authority said in launching a consultation Thursday.

Anonymous whistleblowers are allowed in cases where a tax crime may have taken place. Under draft regulation open for consultation, whistleblowers would identify themselves to the tax authority but can remain anonymous during proceedings.
