A tax treaty with one of the world’s largest lithium producers cleared a Senate test vote Wednesday with broad bipartisan support.
The Senate voted 97-2 to set up a final vote on consenting to ratification of a tax treaty with Chile, which dates back to 2010. The bill made steady progress toward the floor this Congress after lawmakers ironed out foreign tax credit language concerns. Getting a treaty with Chile is a priority for Democrats who passed new green energy credits last year encouraging a transition away from gas and oil.
