China to Levy Up to 36% Consumption Tax on E-Cigarettes

China will collect consumption tax over e-cigarettes from Nov. 1, according to a statement on website of the Ministry of Finance.

  • Consumption tax rate for E-cigarette producers and importers is 36%; tax rate for wholesalers is 11%
  • The tax collection is aimed at guiding “healthy consumption,” statement says
  • On Sept. 29: China Requires E-Cigarette Producers to Get Tobacco License
