Coinbase Papers Subject to IRS Search After Justices Skip Review

The US Supreme Court won’t consider whether to shield a Coinbase Inc. client’s records of his cryptocurrency transactions from an IRS summons, the court announced in an order on Monday.

James Harper, who used Coinbase’s platform to exchange digital assets, asked the high court to review his petition to quash an IRS summons seeking his account activity, including exchange dates, balances, and counterparties to his transactions. Harper appealed the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, which upheld the summons in September.
